LEO A DALY celebrated the May 5 groundbreaking of the Bloomington Veterans Memorial, a new civic landscape dedicated to honoring service, remembrance, and community. 

LEO A DALY has been working with Bloomington Remembers Veterans, in partnership with the City of Bloomington, since 2020 to design and fundraise for a Veterans Memorial that celebrates the contributions of service of Bloomington community members and all who have served. After an extensive outreach campaign, LEO A DALY identified “Service” as the theme for the memorial to acknowledge those who have made a commitment to serve, in all roles of service. 

Designed as a collaboration between LEO A DALY, Damon Farber and SEH, the memorial is conceived as an immersive path within Harrison Park in Bloomington. It guides visitors through a sequence of spaces that invite reflection, conversation and shared experience, culminating in an Honor Plaza designed to host community gatherings. 

Along the path, visitors encounter elements inspired by military dog tags, supported by an armature, composed of six stainless steel branches representing the six branches of U.S. military service. These elements rise from the ground and converge toward a shared center, symbolizing unity through service. Some tags bear individual veterans’ names and connect to a digital platform where stories of service can be shared through recorded stories and videos. Other tags remain intentionally unassigned, representing veterans whose stories are unnamed but no less honored.  

The experience concludes at a contemplative outdoor room framed by trees and anchored by a light at the end of the path — a symbolic and open‑ended element representing reflection, hope, and continuity. Throughout the memorial, spaces are designed for multiple audiences and uses, including benches arranged for small group learning, a gently curving wall that forms a one‑step amphitheater for school groups and ceremonies, and a discreet kiosk providing veteran suicide prevention resources.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has unveiled the Nebraska Engineering Robotics Research Lab, a new LEO A DALY-designed drone and robotics facility that will support high-tech research and the University’s first robotics major. 

In addition to the testing lab, the project includes office space for researchers and a conference room, both with expansive views into the lab area to oversee the tests.  Work is supported by tool and battery storage along with an electronics shop. 

The University selected LEO A DALY to design the conversion of 6,050 SF of former air handling system space in the basement of the Scott Engineering Center into the new robotics & drone lab. 

Built in the 1960s, the space held many quirks: Columns running through the center, a floor that’s well below the main basement of the rest of the building, large ducts running through the space, a mezzanine, and dry coolers that were required to remain operational throughout the project. Working closely with the University’s facilities team and potential users, the design team turned the challenges into opportunities, delivering a space that will meet the needs of robotics users for years to come.

Nebraska Medicine has announced its newest facility, a four-story health clinic that has been designed by LEO A DALY. 

The nearly 100,000 SF midtown Omaha health center will hold the hospital system’s dermatology program, as well as outpatient GI, behavioral health services and general internal medicine. The building is scheduled to open in September 2027. 

Precast concrete and glass curtain walls provide a durable and modern aesthetic, while a sun-shading system of curved, perforated panels adds texture and depth to the west facade while  integrating the building with the broader campus infrastructure.

Palm Beach Atlantic University held a ribbon-cutting for its new business school building on Thursday, March 19, opening a transformative facility that’s designed to cultivate the next generation of ethical business leaders.

The new six-story, 125,000-square-foot academic facility will serve as the home of the University’s AACSB-accredited Marshall E. Rinker, Sr. College of Business and is designed to prepare the next generation of business leaders through hands-on learning, collaboration and access to industry-level technology. 

The Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Business Hall features modern learning environments designed to mirror real-world business settings, including a 300-seat tiered Titus Lecture Hall, the stunning Maschmeyer Innovation Room, collaborative classrooms and a state-of-the-art stock trading room with professional trading terminals that will give students hands-on experience in financial markets.   

The building will also house several of the university’s signature centers, including the Center for Financial Literacy, the LeMieux Center for Public Policy, the Raney Center for Free Enterprise and the Titus Center for Franchising, further expanding opportunities for students to engage in financial education, public policy dialogue and entrepreneurial innovation.

Cynthia “Cyndi” Doolittle, P.E., Lt Col (Ret.), U.S. Air Force, has joined LEO A DALY as deputy director of federal healthcare. With more than 30 years of distinguished leadership in federal healthcare infrastructure and military civil engineering, Doolittle brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. Most recently, she served as director of special engineering projects for the Veterans Health Administration, where she led a 34-member team in delivering $3.8 billion in projects and managing a $5.2 billion national capital program. The new, LEO A DALY-designed patient tower at the Saint Francis Health System’s Muskogee campus has opened all its new rooms to patients. 

The $280 million, 290,000-square-foot expansion touches more than 150 beds. The project introduced private acute care rooms, a new main entrance with an expansive lobby and a dedicated chapel. The design emphasizes visibility, efficiency and whole-person care, reflecting the health system’s commitment to improving healthcare access and wellness across northeastern Oklahoma.

OrthoNebraska’s West Maple facility, opened March 5, marking an additional LEO A DALY- designed facility in the orthopedic hospital system. The new two-story clinic offers diagnostic services, exam and clinic services, physical therapy and athletic performance training. 

LEO A DALY has partnered with OrthoNebraska on a series of projects designed to support the organization’s growth and enhance patient care. Under this model, the building design puts the healing process on display while highlighting physical therapy and athletic training services as patients enter their facilities. Nick brings nearly two decades to his work on lab and research facility projects. His project experience includes the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Lab, City of Henderson Fire Station 84 and the Broward County Forensic Science Center. He holds a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and he is an adjunct instructor at the University of Minnesota College of Design.

Phil has more than 35 years of leadership and senior management experience with a background in facility management, where he directed teams of several hundred personnel providing engineering design and construction, facility management, emergency services and administrative support services worldwide. He’s led and worked on projects at many air force bases around the country including Hill, Offutt and Ellsworth. Phil holds a master’s degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University.

Omaha, the birthplace of LEO A DALY more than a century ago, has seen a dramatic transformation over the past 50 years. The Midlands Business Journal recently featured LEO A DALY’s Chris Johnson, senior director of the commercial market. Johnson reflected on the past five decades of architecture in Omaha.

One trend he noted was the rise of architect-engineer interdisciplinary teams, a core aspect of LEO A DALY’s collaborative culture.

The article also highlights the First National Tower, designed by LEO A DALY. It says the Omaha building “singlehandedly reshaped the skyline. Designed by LEO A DALY and constructed by Kiewit, the 45-story building became an icon of engineering ambition. Its integrated mechanical, lighting and facade systems reflected the advancements in building technology that were becoming possible through interdisciplinary design.”

The Riviera Beach, Florida, city council has unanimously selected The Sonnenblick Development Team to develop the most extensive real estate venture in the city’s 103-year history. The council voted 5-0 on Nov. 17, setting the stage for a holistic reimagining of many of the major elements of the city. LEO A DALY will serve as design lead and architect of record, providing architectural and engineering services throughout the multi‑phase, mixed‑use initiative. 

The redevelopment will unfold in two stages: 

Phase One: Spanning 80-acres, this phase features a new city hall and library within a 125,000-SF complex, as well as a sports center equipped with fields, tennis courts, a gymnasium, and more. The estimated projected cost is close to $200 million. 

Phase Two: This stage plans to introduce further sports amenities, some low-rise residential and commercial developments, a transit station, and a parking garage. 

Alongside Sonnenblick Development, LLC., additional partners include The Sports Facilities Companies, tasked with developing the sports complex, and Kaufman Lynn Construction.

Omaha’s ABC affiliate, KETV, is celebrating one decade in a former train station reimagined by LEO A DALY.  

Originally constructed in 1898, the Burlington Passenger Station had stood vacant for nearly 40 years, suffering from neglect and vandalism that stripped away most of its historic finishes. When KETV outgrew its original broadcast facility, the station saw potential in the abandoned structure. LEO A DALY’s design approach honored the building’s layered history, preserving and showcasing vestiges of its Greek Revival architecture and the patina of its storied past.  

Senior Architect Sheila Ireland recently sat down with KETV to discuss her connection to the project and the inspiration she drew from the building’s storied history. Read more on the KETV website.

Cheri Pavlik has returned to LEO A DALY to lead business development strategy and growth throughout Florida. As director of business development in the West Palm Beach studio, Cheri will lead initiatives that secure strategic partnerships and position the company for long-term success.  

Pavlik brings more than three decades of experience in the region, both in business development roles and as an interior designer. She previously worked in business development at LEO A DALY for eight years. Pavlik holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Michigan State University. She is active in her community, serving as a zoning commissioner in Palm Beach County and a board member for ACE Mentor Program of America.
